Dredger Design:
When designing cutter suction dredgers, the following basic design criteria are important:
• Production capacity
• Dredging depth
• Working conditions which affect the size of the dredger
• Type of soil
• Transport distance(s)
• Access to the side
The cutter suction dredger can be used in all types of soil, from soft clay to hard rock. The soil to be dredged has a great influence on the design and construction. Considerable forces are generated when working in rock. They are generated by the cutter head and returned to the ground partly via the ladder and side winches and partly via the pontoon and the spud pole. The design of cutter suction dredgers is also determined by the required amount of installed cutting power.
